Note: text recognition inside images (OCR) is not supported.
Tags, notes, and other metadata are available to every member through the shared folder. Usage terms — permission required, do not use, and so on — are shared as well, preventing mistakes before they happen. You can also keep private favorites that stay yours alone.
Images are the main focus, but other files show up with their type, and you can tag and annotate them too. Camera RAW files and PDFs get thumbnails as well.
Note: thumbnails are not generated for videos, Office files, ZIPs, and similar formats.

If an image is renamed or moved directly outside Drive DAM, its tags and other records can get left behind in the original folder. Drive DAM detects this automatically, lets you know, and relinks the record to the file's new location.

No. Tags and notes are stored in a _dam/ folder next to your images — the image files themselves are never altered.
Tags and notes live in _dam folders inside your local or shared folders, so they remain after uninstalling — your teammates keep working, unaffected. Reinstall and register the folder again, and you pick up right where you left off. With settings export and import, you can also restore registered folders and bookmarks.
No. Access permissions on the shared folder define exactly who can see the tags and notes.
No. Tags are applied by hand and refined together as a team. There is no automatic classification quietly reorganizing your library.
Drive DAM is a Windows app; Mac is not supported at present. The generated thumbnails and settings files are visible in the shared folder, but Drive DAM itself will not run there. A Mac version may come in the future.
Once no Drive DAM user has the folder registered, delete the _dam and _dam_thumbs folders. If there are many, search for folders with those names and delete them all.
